The academic component of the experience most often includes reading articles and writing a five-page APA-format paper in addition to performing standard lab tasks. Students can register for 1 - 6 credits of PSY 4993. PSY 5993 is always set at 3 credit hours and is the default psychology department lab registration in the fall and spring semesters.
Hours Per Credit
During fall and spring semesters (16-week), each credit earned amounts to approximately 3 hours of work per week:
- 1 credit - 3 hours per week
- 3 credits - 9 hours per week
- 6 credits - 18 hours per week
Registration Instructions
- Confirm research lab expectations, assignments, duties, and project information with your faculty or research lab.
- Fill out the Undergraduate Research Contract.
- If you haven’t filled out the contract before, you will need to register for an account.
- Once you complete the contract, it is sent to your faculty for approval.
- If they approve your contract, it is sent to Psychology Advising.
- If the contract is ready and has no errors, we will send you a permission number.
- If the contract has any errors, it is returned to you in the system for fixing the errors. When this happens, it does need to be approved by your faculty again.
